What documents do I need for a Spanish mortgage application?

For a Spanish mortgage application, you typically need: 1) Valid passport and NIE number. 2) Proof of income — employed: last 3 payslips, employment contract, P60 or tax returns for last 2-3 years.

Self-employed: last 2-3 years of tax returns, accountant's letter, company accounts. 3) Bank statements — last 6 months from all accounts. 4) Proof of existing debts — mortgage statements, loan agreements, credit card statements. 5) Proof of assets — savings, investments, other property ownership. 6) Spanish bank account details. 7) Property details — the listing information and preliminary contract if available. 8) Credit report from your home country.

All documents must be officially translated into Spanish if in another language.

Some banks also request proof of address, marriage certificate if buying jointly, and a declaration of assets.

The bank will arrange its own property valuation (tasación).

Your mortgage broker can provide a checklist specific to your bank.
