Can I get residency in Spain after buying property?

Buying property in Spain does not automatically grant residency, but it can facilitate the process.

For EU/EEA citizens, you have the right to live in Spain — you just need to register and obtain a residency certificate (certificado de registro de ciudadano de la UE) if staying more than 3 months.

For non-EU citizens, options include: the Golden Visa program (investment of €500,000+ in property grants residency), non-lucrative visa (prove sufficient income without working in Spain), digital nomad visa, or retirement visa.

Each has specific requirements regarding income, health insurance, and criminal record checks.

Property ownership alone doesn't qualify for residency for non-EU citizens unless through the Golden Visa program.

After 5 years of continuous residency, you can apply for permanent residency.

After 10 years, you may apply for Spanish citizenship.
